About MEMdo

MEMdo is an app designed for students with learning differences to help them learn and memorize information by using gamification, multimodal learning, and location memory.

With MEMdo, kids can play and learn at the same time.

How did MEMdo begin?

Founder Molly Sugarman discovered the power of games as a kid. In her middle school computer class, Sugarman developed a game using software she found online to help her study for her upcoming Social Studies test. By using her own experience and lessons learned at Jemicy School, a Baltimore school she attended that supported her through schooling with dyslexia, Sugarman was able to develop a game that was not only fun but educational. In no time, her entire class was playing the game too!

This is the inspiration behind MEMdo. With a computer science and education background, Sugarman developed her childhood idea into something bigger - something she knew could help kids with learning differences just like herself.

What makes MEMdo so special?

Gamification

The use of games to encourage and engage students in learning.

Multimodal Learning

Spelling for Tactile Learning: tracing letters, drawing a picture

Voice Recording for Auditory Learning: self audio recording pronouncing the word

Video Making for Kinesthetic Learning: self video recording representing the word

Seeing Word and Definition for Visual Learning

Location memory

After words are learned using multimodal learning techniques, they are placed on a big map. This map allows kids to visually see their learning progress in a linear fashion. Kids learn to associate certain colors with words on the map, practicing these essential learning skills!
